No matter what kind of business you run, big or small, it’s vital that you have software test teams in place, ready to assess the tech you use to keep your company afloat – or you could find that you start losing customers left, right and centre.
Problems can strike at any time and can affect even the biggest companies out there, so you do need to have processes and procedures in place to help prevent this and also to minimise the impact of any issues that do arise.
This BBC news report highlights how even the biggest of brands out there can come across problems with the software they use, with thousands of people all across the UK charged twice for debit card payments because of an issue with a card terminal run by Cardnet.
Many people who bank with different organisations were also charged twice for shopping in businesses, restaurants and shops using Cardnet terminals, with the majority of those transactions affected involving Visa debit cards.
The BBC’s personal finance correspondent Simon Gompertz had this to say on the matter: “Last year cards topped cash for the first time ever, as contactless paying took off. So it’s vital we can have confidence in the security and reliability of the technology.
“It has taken Cardnet nearly a week to send out refunds for its double-charging mistake. In that time some customers will have been perplexed or even panicky about what happened to their accounts. If banks want us to embrace the future, they need to be much sharper at dealing with the glitches.”
Testing the software you use on a regular basis will quickly highlight areas of strength and weaknesses in the tools you use, or the processes and procedures you follow, which will mean you are then better placed to make improvements to help forward your company’s objectives.
