When developing business software, from quality test to user feedback, it’s important to know how it’s used in the real world so that you can ensure it’s as valuable as possible to the end user.
A study, reported by IT Pro, has found that as many as three quarters of employees are ‘being forced’ to install work based apps and software onto their own devices in order to perform their jobs.
Of those, 74 per cent said that they resented having to use business applications on personal devices, fearing that employers are using them to track the employees, however two-thirds said that they also trusted their employees not to do so.
The report, by CCS Insight, looked at a sample of workers from across the US and Western Europe, asking questions about the place of digital technology in their workplace.
This report has found that the most used application on mobile devices is now Whatsapp, eclipsing Microsoft Office 365, according to these respondents.
Nick McQuire, vice president of Enterprise Research at CCS Insight spoke of the blurring between business and personal technology as one of the key trends the study reported. It also uncovered an underlying fear about the role of artificial intelligence, which many believe could leave to job losses, yet they also value the use of the likes of smart assistants in the workplace.
One of the biggest gripes in the workplace in regards to technology is poor connectivity, according to the study. Despite this, employees are still prone to use ‘always-on’, connected apps and software in the workplace.
