In this lesson, we explain in a bit more detail, why the TMMi Foundation believes that certain Specific Practices may less relevant (or even not relevant at all) in purely Agile projects.
TMMi in an Agile context – overview
Learning objectives for TMMi in an Agile context
For this section of the course (TMMi in an Agile context) there are five learning objectives:
- LO 6.1 [K2] Understand how TMMi can be used in an Agile context, and how the two can complement each other.
- LO 6.2 [K2] Understand the differences between doing test process improvement in an Agile context and doing this in a traditional context.
- LO 6.3 [K2] Explain, with examples, how the TMMi Level 2 Process Areas, Goals and Practices should be interpreted, and can be used, in an Agile context.
- LO 6.4 [K2] Explain, with examples, how the TMMi Level 3 Process Areas, Goals and Practices should be interpreted, and can be used, in an Agile context.
- LO 6.5 [K2] Understand how the Process Areas and Practices at TMMi Levels 4 and 5 can be used in an Agile context.
In a classroom-based situation, the syllabus for this course expects this section of the training to take approximately 60 minutes, but I recommend at least 180 minutes of study.
Assessment Closure
In the final lesson of the course we will cover what you need to do to inform the TMMi Foundation of your assessment results.
Assessment Reporting
In this lesson we are focussing on the reporting process and the use of the data tool to help produce tabular and graphical representation of assessment results.
Calculation of Ratings in the Data Tool
In previous lessons we have covered the theory of scoring and how interview scores feed into rating Practices, Goals and Process Areas. We have also seen how the data tool is used to record the scores of interviews. We are now going to look at how the tool is used to help calculate ratings all the way through the TMMi element hierarchy from Sub-practices, Practices, Goals and up to Process Areas.
Scoring interviews in the Data Tool
We have seen in previous lessons the theory of rating TMMi elements, but now we come on to how the theory is put into practice by scoring and rating interviews using the data tool.
Pre-Assessment Activities
Before we start the assessment itself, after the initial planning and preparation, there are several activities we need to complete relating to the data tool, which will be used to record almost all the information the assessment team needs. In this lesson we will take you through everything you need to know to set the tool up for any type of assessment.
Assessment Rating
Having gathered the necessary evidence – though interviews and reviews of many types of artefacts – the assessment team must begin the process of rating the various TMMi elements. In this lesson we will cover precisely what and when to rate against the TMMi model.
Assessment Interview Phase
Interviews with key personnel are one of the main way of gaining evidence about a test organisation. In this lesson we will look at the different types of interview we can conduct and how best to prepare for and run them.
Assessment Planning and Preparation
No matter what the type of assessment being conducted, careful planning and preparation are absolutely essential for its smooth running . In the following topics we’ll take you through the basic assessment method, from initial discussions with the sponsor to creating a workable schedule.
Assessment Types
Assessor Accreditation
There are several requirements to meet in order to be able to apply successfully to become an assessor accredited by the TMMi Foundation. In this lesson we look in detail at those requirements and show you how to complete the assessor accreditation application form.

Data Tool Setup
The data tool can be considered the heart of the Experimentus TMMi Assessment method. In the topics in this lesson we will explain how the tool is installed and get you up and running with it so you can use it for some of the assignments later in the course.

The End!
That is the end of the TMMi Assessor course.
Once your tutor has reviewed your submissions, you will be issued with your certificate of completion. You can use this as evidence to accompany your application for accreditation as a TMMi Assessor or TMMi Process Improver.
I hope you found it informative and useful. If you have any comments or suggestions for improvement please let us know.
